Outdoor Brunch at La Cosecha

We've been mostly hiding in our little hole since Covid started, so brunch the other day at La Cosecha was the first time we sat down to eat at a restaurant in a loooong while.

La Cosecha has set up a lot of tables outside to appease the virus-paranoid (like me!). They've got the whole dining area at the front surrounded by these beautiful tropical flowers and bushes, all under a grove of palm trees, and the effect creates a sense of privacy and separation from the rest of the shopping center and tables. There was a nice breeze blowing the whole time we were eating and it and our loovely carafe of mimosas made me just about melt into my chair. Supremely relaxing.

As is usual, for La Cosecha (read our other post here), the food was waay above par.

The staff were all wearing masks and our own waiter must have checked on us at least 8 times. Superb service.

Everything was delicious, but I think top recommendations would be the beautiful ceviche and the Mexican (French) toast.  The ceviche was slightly sour, slightly sweet, slightly salty, and slightly spicy.  The wild caught Gulf red snapper was paired with, in-house pickled mangos (fermented for 10 days), bright watermelon radishes, and a mezcal vinegar base. They then artfully sprinkled it with habanero oil and edible flower petals. It was a feast for the eyes as well as the belly.

The other top contender was their take on French toast.  Everything we ordered was delicious of course, because La Cosecha is a freaking powerhouse, but surprisingly, at this authentic interior Mexican food restaurant, the French toast blew our minds. This stuff was delicious y'all. Like top French toast in town delicious. Gets our vote.

It was absolutely saturated in good butter. The bread (their house brioche!) had just the right about of batter and carmelization on it to make it have a bit of texture to the bite, but not crunchy or dry, as it gets at some places. It was deliciously soft and covered with pumpkin seeds, blackberries, strawberries, and oats, and cajeta (thickened caramel made from sweetened carmelized goats milk).

We demolished this brunch y'all. It was THE best first introduction meal back out and about. Delicious and we were made to feel super comfortable with the outdoor seating and extra precautions taken by the staff. 10 out of 10.
Also pictured, their take on eggs benedict. If you want a traditional eggs benedict, this is not it. If you want a perfectly poached egg, on Jalapeno cornbread , with perfect pork belly and a delicious sweet tomato jam, this is it. Branch out my benedictine brunchers, because this is goood.

Tip: if you, like us, enjoy a long Saturday brunch, or you are just thirsty, get the Mojito carafe for $26. They were the right balance of sweet and sour and the carafe holds 6 glasses for the price of just over 4 if bought by the glass.
